DMAGAZINE Update

DMAGAZINE and our latest meeting

First an update on the mag

Well, need to carry a mop around to clean up my drool from what I saw regarding the progress of DMAGAZINE last night. In a word, I was DUMBFOUNDED.

There is still much to go in regards to completing and saying we are done, but the layout that I saw was outstanding. It is going to be such a tremendous accomplishment to get this magazine out and into the design world. It is also going to be a tremedous gift! This vision is really coming to fruition and I am amazed.

I want to give Brittany Thompson - editor and Chris Wells my utmost thanks for putting a whole lot of heart into this. They have really helped create something that will go far beyond being a local rag, it will be an event, and one that people will look forward too!

So what more do we need? Well, if anyone out there has InDesign skills that you are looking to hone or develop it would be a great time to volunteer. To get this magazine out and have any chance to push out 2 to 3 more this year, we will need more hands. If you are a student, this would be an excellent opportunity to get some internship hours. If you go anywhere other than Spencerian and would be interested in doing an internship, provide me with some contact details.

Now an update on the group

As for our group, well I have to say WOW. We had the largest turnout I have ever seen for DMAG last month and it appears we may even begin to double that! This obviously will offer a few challenges, mainly space and computers. IF our next meeting starts to max out our computer arrangement, we may have to split into 3 groups and have 1 group meet in the Auditorium with their laptops. Or we could have one group that could only watch a demo as ALL rooms have at least one computer and projector.

We have also begun an information sharing partnership with www.blueprintsaints.com For those of you who were at the February meeting, you may remember Ben and his pitch of his "sounding very spectacular" comic magazine idea. They work out at http://awesomeinc.org/. I have had a chance to see this site and it is amazing. This is a great place to poke your tent pegs if you are an entreprenuer (probably spelled that wrong) in need of lab space. Its highly affordable, and looks like networking heaven.

So many cool things are happening in this group as we are building this community I could write for hours about it. But, I won't. What I will tell you though is that if you have not come to a meeting and are on the fence about it? Unhook the fence from your coat tails and get out here. There is so much to gain from our meetings in networking and friend making! Not to mention that the group manager is one funny guy! :)

Oh yeah, if you have been thinking about upgrading to CS4? Now is a great time, especially if your a student. Here is a link to Adobe's special offers, and they are giving an additional $50 off of the already 80% discount that students get! There are also some great sales going on with many of the Adobe products! Check 'em out here from the special offers link in the sidebar, or just below!
