Hey everyone,
I think a local digital arts magazine is just what the Central Kentucky design community needs! There is so much creativity flowing around here, and this would be a perfect way to recognize some of the individuals who are bringing their inspiration to the community!
I've been trying to help Joe brainstorm some ideas for what types of content should be in our first issue. I'm still new to the group so I could use your ideas and suggestions here. I know most of us are pretty busy with other projects, but if we all are willing to pitch in and spread the word, or even contribute just a small sample of work, photography, artwork or a design, this really shouldn't be too time-consuming for any of us.
Here are some of the ideas I've had (based off other digital art magazines that I've seen):
D-MAG Member of the Month (with short interview)
Letter from the Editor
Contact Info - d-mag.org, meetup site, info on joining, etc
Digital Media Artist of the Month and/or Digital Media Image of the month (Should we do this? If so, do we want to limit this to just D-MAG members, or open it up to others in the community?)
News & Events
Images (Any volunteers to submit images?)
Tutorials, Articles & Interviews (Any volunteers?)
Reviews of software, events, books, local galleries, visually stunning movies/special effects, etc.. (Volunteers? Maybe start by publishing our most recent D-MAG reviews?)
Letters to the Editor/Q&A/Feedback from readers
Who Inspires Us? (feature an artist or "design hero" who inspires us OR interview a member about what inspires them...)
Concept artwork, sketches, rough drafts, & other ideas for a behind the scenes look at a D-MAG member's creative process. If possible, show the evolution of an idea from concept to completion.
Career Paths (written by a different member each month with advice for using digital media tools for success in their field)
JOIN D-MAG info & reminders throughout the magazine

The following are some suggestions for future issues as the D-MAG & D-MAGazine start to grow:
Paid advertisments throughout (with advertising contact info located in the front or back of the magazine)
Online Discussions - once the forum and blogs get more action, publish the most discussed, funniest or most interesting/relevant conversation
Contests & Prizes open only to magazine readers.

Again, these are only suggestions for the first issue - but we could really use your feedback and submissions! ANYTHING you can provide would be worth it. Let's make this magazine happen!!
