I Love this book and wish I had studied it during Illustrator CS4 class. Included is a DVD-ROM that contains video tutorials and downloadable art that can be used to follow along with examples enabling readers to fully digest the concepts present by Von Clitschka. While it felt like an insult to learn that I am a tooler, "someone who doesn't neccessarily want to improve her drawing skills", I am thankful to learn successful vector building techniques.

Illustrator revealed is a great instructional book for the novice to intermediate learner. It's full color throughout and well laid out with an unusual 9 1/8" by 7 3/8" aspect ratio. A CD of the project files are included with the book which you can use to follow along or you can create your own as you work your way through the book. As previously stated, this book is intended for the beginner, although an intermediate user would probably find merit in the book as well. I think a proficient user would need a more challenging experience and would not recommend this book to them. However, this book does cover the objectives necessary for Adobe Illustrator ACE Certification and a chart is included in the appendix to indicate where an objective is covered within the book.

Adobe Illustrator CS4 WOW is way beyond the basics.  It is eye candy for any designer or vector illustrator regardless if they are a beginner or advance user. It is packed full of tips and techniques including step-by-step instructions that will have you mastering skills in lightning speeds!

Particularly interesting, is Chapter 2, "Zen of Illustrator" the instructions on the "finger dance".  I agree, once an illustrator masters this technique ... every skill, shortcut and exercise will be easier and faster from that point forward.  (This skill is especially important for someone using A.I to produce vector files in a fast-past, deadline-orientated work environment.)

I've been using Adobe Illustrator for about ten years. When I'm designing a logo, Illustrator is my application of choice. For my money, if you can't build a logo that can be blown up as big a a billboard without jagged edges, you ain't got squat. Flexibility is the bottom line and only a vector graphic affords that flexibility.

Adobe Illustrator CS Idea Kit is a small book with 18 bite-sized projects designed to feed your imagination and get you quickly up-to-speed with Illustrator. It isn’t a definitive reference, but its restrained size and direct delivery style make it easier to digest than many larger publications. Which also means the ideas can be put into use more quickly. First time authors Jerome Holder & Barbara Mulligan have many years of commercial art experience under their collective belts and have done a good job of distilling that knowledge.
