To borrow (OK, steal) the name of a recent Jerry Lee Lewis compilation, this book should be subtitled "All Killer, No Filler!". I tried (within reason, I don't have all day to geek out on Photoshop tips), but really couldn't find any useless tips offered from the Master (Scott Kelby). If there are some, they probably originated with Felix Nelson, Kelby's co-author, since Kelby can do no wrong (Scott, was that enough to cinch my free lifetime NAPP membership?).

This Photoshop advice and teaching book by Phillip Andrews is a great find. It's not a sit by the fire and read book but, rather a wonderful ready reference.

Adobe keeps making great products and adding new features almost to the speed of "hold on I can't keep up.” This book offers some handholds on Photoshop. It is set up in dictionary style in which it describes every feature and action in Photoshop from A to Z with really nice color photos. In many cases it has multiple screenshots of features, filters and actions.

Intrigued by the title's promise, I recently checked out a book called "Sam's Teach Yourself Adobe Photoshop CS2 in 24 Hours" written by Carla Rose. I design newspaper and magazine ads, brochures, fliers, posters, web pages and newsletters for an art museum. I've learned to use most of my software programs by the seat of my pants with only a handful of one–day workshop training programs. The trouble with 8 hour workshops is they are only effective, for me, if I can return to work and immediately apply the new knowledge to my daily tasks.

This is a book that anyone who delves into the program Photoshop should have on their shelf. It's written simple enough for the novice user and has ample nuggets of information for the professional. The book being in full color is something unusual for Photoshop books too. Most have a section or two in color and the rest in black and white. Not this book, its color, cover to cover.

"Advice from Down Under" might be an appropriate subtitle for this book, since it was written by two seasoned Australian photographers – and both are, unsurprisingly, beta testers for the Adobe Photoshop product line. Their prose is peppered with non-U.S. spellings and phrases such as "colour," "whilst," and "realize," but this is not distracting in the least. After all, these people have used the English language a bit longer than Americans!
